This year has been full of ups and downs, but if we’re being honest, the downs just make the ups that much better. If there is one thing that we’ve learned from 2020, it’s that no matter how crazy things get, love will always find a way. The Wedding Collective team has been so impressed by the show-stopping intimate weddings that are still taking place despite the pandemic. No amount of darkness can keep soulmates from strengthening their connection. For the lovely ladies of Maura Jane Photography, they were able to see this firsthand when they attended Carolyn + Nick’s unconventional, but stunning, intimate Santa Fe wedding.
The sweet couple had to face some pretty big challenges when it came to planning their wedding. From minimizing the number of wedding guests to changing venues, to the Santa Fe fires, there were a lot of changes being made in a short amount of time. To top it off, Carolyn’s sister was unable to make it to the wedding due to COVID-19. When we say that this year has been tough on couples all around the world, we’re putting it lightly. This couple, however, grabbed the lemons that life gave them and made the best lemonade you could imagine.
Carolyn + Nick chose a venue that reflected their personalities perfectly –the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. With its jaw-dropping scenery and classic details, the cathedral made for the perfect spot for two beautiful souls to say their “I dos”. The large venue also made it possible for the couple’s close family members to safely sit and watch the ceremony. There’s one pretty amazing detail we need to point out, though. Carolyn’s family had created life-size cardboard cutouts of the family members that weren’t able to attend… pure genius.
We’re simply fawning over the adorable reception. The vibrant pops of pink to match their wedding stationery (beautifully handmade by the bride), the cake, the dancing— it was all perfection. Even though they ended up having a small wedding, they still got to hear wishes of congratulations and love from their guests in a video played at the end of the evening.
