The holiday season is upon us and the Wedding Collective team is spreading some cheer and wishing you happiness for next year! With the year coming to an end, we’re looking back at all of the beautiful weddings that happened despite the hardships that were faced globally – and we couldn’t be more proud of this community. Life truly threw us all a curveball, and engaged couples and wedding vendors alike found a way to approach the situation with grace. The beauty that has come from this year is unparalleled, from micro-weddings to stunning elopements set against outdoor landscapes.
To celebrate the beauty that came out of this year, we would love to share this elopement + story from the sweet Maura Jane Photography. We know that above all else, love is the most important thing we have. When the world faces a pandemic, it is not the material things that matter, but the relationships we’ve formed with the people we love. This elopement reminds us of that, so please, dive in and fall in love with everything about this wedding story!
THE STORY
Hannah and Derrick met in high school while working together to help elementary school children. They hit it off and became great friends, even attending prom together their junior year! However, they didn’t officially begin dating until they had already both graduated.
Hannah and Derrick planned a big wedding in Santa Fe, but of course the current pandemic situation made it impossible for their big day to happen. The couple sadly decided to postpone their wedding. After talking it over, though, they realized they just didn’t want to wait any longer to be married… so the plan for a small elopement began!
They deliberated on several different spots to say I do, and finally decided upon their favorite hiking trail near the Sandia Crest. The 10k Trail is special to them, as they have many fond memories spent here hiking together with their adorable dogs. (Make sure to scroll to see a picture of their cuties!)
Hannah chose simple yet beautiful details for the day, wearing a stunning BHLDN long sleeve beaded gown and a vintage-inspired headpiece. Her beautiful bouquet— we joked almost too heavy for her to carry alone— was an eye-catcher, full of fall-inspired colors and greenery.
Hannah and Derrick walked hand in hand as they hiked up their favorite trail to a spot underneath the pine trees where they read heartfelt vows to each other. They followed the intimate ceremony with an equally intimate dinner, having their closest friends at their beautiful home in the foothills, the table decorated with glass pumpkins and candles. It was the perfect end to a perfect day!
We hope everyone has a safe and very Merry Christmas this week. Happy Holidays from the WC Team!
