Your lip color is vital to your overall bridal look and smudged, smeared, and faded lipstick is the last thing you’ll have time for on your wedding day. Here are a few tips for lip color that lasts from the moment you step down the aisle to the last kiss of the night.

Choosing a Product Type:

Lip stains tend to last the longest, especially with all of the kiss-tested and food and drink-tested, long-wearing formulas available. Try out a few different varieties in advance to find your perfect formula. Remember, some long-lasting lip colors can have a sticky or overly dry feeling and may cause irritation. The wrong lip product could have you picking at or licking your lips all night so it’s worth spending some time to find one that works for you.

Choosing your Signature Color:

Reds are classic and can be a little bit vintage, plums are trendy and gorgeous for fall weddings, and pinks and nude shades are great for a soft, natural look. For a very natural lip color that will define your lips and photograph beautifully, find a shade that is just slightly darker than your natural lip color.

For a Flawless Application:

For a precise application avoid using product directly from the tube and use a lip brush instead. Using the lip brush, trace along the outline of your lips with small, smooth strokes. Avoid painting outside your natural lip shape. Using the tube now, fill in your lips with color. Blot with a tissue to remove any excess.

Glossy Lips:

If you like a glossy look, layer on a clear lip gloss. A small dab to the fullest part of your bottom lip is all you’ll need for a fuller looking pout. Keep in mind that gloss will cause your lip color to fade faster and will have to be reapplied more often than a matte lip product. Gloss also transfers more easily, so be prepared to wipe bits of gloss off of anyone you kiss.

Matte Lips:

Matte lipstick is this season’s biggest makeup trend and is perfect for upcoming fall and winter weddings. To get a sultry matte lipstick look, blot your lips after applying your lip color.  Then lightly dust your lips with a slight layer of translucent powder before adding a second coat of color.
